In the rewritten words of the phenomenal vocalist and lyricist Steve Perry:
“[I’m] just a small-town boy living in the lovely world of NFL football.”
That “midnight train to anywhere” has taken me here.
Next stop—Press Coverage.
For those who don’t know me, my name is Brandon Loree, and I am a sports writer.
The beauty of a newsletter means there’s a frail 5’7” author whose body wouldn’t allow him to play football past the 7th grade hiding behind these words. I owe my parents a lot, but the genetics of an Olympic athlete wouldn’t be one of them.
Now that you know I cover the NFL without ever taking a professional snap, allow me the chance to prove size doesn’t matter in the world of journalism.
Flash forward to when I broke my arm during one of those 7th-grade football practices, I decided to hang up my cleats for good in exchange for a Dell laptop.
The next best thing to being on the field during a football game would be describing the atmosphere, tension, drama, and joy to others from the press box. While I’m not a frequent flyer of an NFL press box yet, I hope this newsletter will help me get there someday.
Football has meant the world to me, and I hope Press Coverage will mean a lot to you. Every week, I’ll be discussing the NFL topics that pique my interest from any angle and talk about it.
While most of my experience revolves around the Dallas Cowboys, I have covered the New York Giants, Denver Broncos, Fantasy Football, the NFL Draft, and the entire league.
This newsletter will feature all 32 teams at one point or another. And yes, that will begrudgingly include the Philadelphia Eagles.
I won’t ask much from my teammates (that’s you), but I ask that you like, share, comment, and contribute to the conversation.
There will be many opportunities for your voice to be heard, along with many other industry professionals I’ve met along my journey.
So tighten those chin straps, buckle your shoulder pads, and line up as you prepare for some Press Coverage.
